About the film
The Walker Lela Foundation for Women’s Empowerment, is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to empower women, girls and children by providing support services, case management, basic skills education, and resource coordination, to improve and enhance the quality of life for women, girls and children in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad.
The maiden film project for the organisation is ‘POSITIVE & PREGNANT’ – A twenty four minute video Docudrama,which advocates for the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV / AIDS. The film also brings awareness to its viewers on the treatment process for HIV positive expectant mothers, as well as encouraging viewers to be tested for HIV.
In an effort by The Walker Lela Foundation for women's empowerment and their global partners, community sessions are hosted to educate young persons about the consequences of unprotected sexual activity and advocates for PMTCT in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad.
The all local Trinidad & Tobago cast features burgeoning and experienced actors namely, Jeanine Lee Kim as lead actress, Duane Dario 3D Dixon, Naomi Abiola, Pauline Mark, Lylah Persad and HIV activist Lorna Henry as herself.

The Executive Producer for the piece is Embassy of the United States of America and Presidents Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The Docudrama was Produced by Candice Lela Rolingson and Film Director by Stacy Lela, and the screenplay was written by Nyron Rolingson, video production was done by FORCEFED Productions and post production audio by Jean-Marc Cadet of Champion Sound Mastering.
Positive & Pregnant features an official soundtrack ‘SMILE’ which is an original composition sang and written by Moses Babb and sound engineered by Jason Andrews and D’ Academy. The vocals and instrumental version can be heard throughout the Docudrama, other pieces of music which are all written and sang by local artiste will also be featured.
The script was proofed by the HIV/AIDS Unit of Ministry of Health- Dr. Brian Armour and Mrs Ann -Marie Libert De Four and endorsed by Dr. Nyla Lyons of Surveillance Unit of The Embassy of the United States of America. The film officially premiered on the 29th of November 2010, commemorating World AIDS Day, hosted by The Ministry of The People and Social Development and supported by The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company.
The twenty four minute docudrama as also been making international impact, by way of the international film festival circuit. The film was screened at CaribbeanTales Film Festival on March 20th 2011 in Bridgetown Barbados, premiered internationally, at the New York International Film Festival, Africa premiere, on 24th June 2011, at the Zanzibar International Film festival in Zanzibar, Tanzania- The film is being used in Women panoramas, an outreach project to four communities in the Dhow region of Tanzania. The workshops aim to educate women in the Dhow region on the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT).
It also copped several international and local awards including the award for Best Social Awareness Film by the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival and Caribbean Development Bank also Best Documentary and Best International Docudrama by the New York International Film Festival. Over 100,000 persons were able to view Positive and Pregnant during the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company’s TV Film Festival. Positive & Pregnant was briefly available on TT FLOW Cable - Video on Demand to commemorate December 1st World AIDS Day 2011(select channel 1000 local programs TTFF).

Independent research has been on-going since 2007 by the film’s producer Candice Lela- Rolingson, the most recent study in 2013 a dissertation the Cause, Effect & Influence of Behavior Change: The effects of the film Positive and Pregnant on youth between 14-17 years old students, attending secondary school in east Trinidad and Tobago.
The Directors of Walker Lela Foundation for women’s empowerment, hopes that this film Positive and Pregnant, contributes to achieving the goal of eradicating the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mothers or parents to children in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and Africa by the year 2015, and urges private and public institutions to support the recognition of World AIDS Day annually. While this represents only a small effort toward a Global task is the Foundation is optimistic that it would inspire you to be part of this mission.
